Removal
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to: Specifications (414-00 Battery and Charging System - General Information, Specifications).
  2. WARNING:

    Make sure to support the vehicle with axle stands.

    Raise and support the vehicle.
  3. Remove the engine cover. For additional information, refer to: Engine Cover - TDV8 3.6L Diesel (501-05 Interior Trim and Ornamentation, Removal and Installation).
  4. Remove the auxiliary battery tray. For additional information, refer to: Auxiliary Battery Tray (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, Removal and Installation).
  5. CAUTION:

    Make sure that all openings are sealed. Use new blanking caps.

    Remove the oil level indicator and upper oil level indicator tube.
      • Remove the bolt.
      • Remove and discard the 2 O-ring seals.

    Remove the RH fuel line shield.
      • Remove the 7 nuts.
  7. Remove the battery tray. For additional information, refer to: Battery Tray (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, Removal and Installation).

    Release the coolant lines.
      • Remove the 2 nuts.
  9. Remove the oil filler cap.
      • Remove and discard the O-ring seal.

    Remove the LH fuel line shield.
      • Remove the 7 nuts.

    Disconnect the 8 fuel injector electrical connectors.
      • Release the 4 wiring harness clips.

    Disconnect the 4 knock sensor (KS) electrical connectors.

    Disconnect both glow plug electrical connectors.

    Disconnect both exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve electrical connectors.

    Release the wiring harness.
      • Release the 5 clips.
      • Remove the bolt.

    Disconnect the fuel temperature sensor electrical connector.

    Disconnect the fuel rail pressure (FRP) sensor electrical connector.

    Disconnect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connector.
      • Release the 3 wiring harness clips.

    Disconnect both manifold absolute pressure and temperature (MAPT) sensor electrical connectors.
  20. Remove the generator. For additional information, refer to: Generator (414-02D Generator and Regulator - TDV8 3.6L Diesel, Removal and Installation).
  21. NOTE:

    The bolt and spacer will remain captive to the accessory drive belt idler pulley.

    Remove the cooling fan belt idler pulley.
      • Remove and discard the access cover.
      • Fully loosen the bolt.

      • Remove the 2 bolts.

    Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector.

      • Remove the 4 clips.

    Disconnect the air conditioning (A/C) compressor electrical connector.
      • Release the A/C compressor electrical connector from the bracket.

      • Remove the nut.

      • Remove the power steering pump 2 front bolts.

    Release and reposition the wiring harness.
      • Release the wiring harness clip.

    Disconnect the switch lead from the starter motor solenoid.
      • Remove the bolt.

    Disconnect the engine oil temperature sensor electrical connector.

    Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.

    Disconnect the RH turbocharger electrical connector.

    Release and reposition the wiring harness.
      • Release the 8 clips.

    Disconnect the 3 electrical connectors from the engine control module (ECM).

    Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector.

    Release the engine wiring harness cassette and reposition the wiring harness.
      • Release the 2 clips.
  52. Remove the engine wiring harness.
Installation
  1. E96972
    Install the engine wiring harness.
      • Tighten the bolt to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft).
      • Secure with the clips.
  2. Reposition the engine wiring harness and secure the wiring harness cassette.
      • Secure the clips.
  3. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector.
  4. Connect the glow plug electrical connector.
  5. Connect the ECM electrical connectors.
  6. Reposition and secure the wiring harness.
      • Secure the clips.
  7. Connect the RH turbocharger electrical connector.
  8. Connect the CKP sensor electrical connector.
  9. Connect the engine oil temperature sensor electrical connector.
  10. Connect the switch lead to the starter motor solenoid.
      • Tighten the bolt to 4 Nm (3 lb.ft).
  11. Install the engine undershield. For additional information, refer to: Engine Undershield (501-02 Front End Body Panels, Removal and Installation).
  12. Reposition and secure the wiring harness.
      • Secure the clip.
  13. Secure the power steering pump.
      • Tighten the bolts to 23 Nm (17 lb.ft).
  14. Install the A/C compressor support bracket.
      • Tighten the M10 to 45 Nm (33 lb.ft).
      • Tighten the M8 to 23 Nm (17 lb.ft).
  15. Secure the transmission cooler line support bracket.
      • Tighten the bolt to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft).
  16. Secure the wiring harness.
  17. Connect the LH turbocharger electrical connector.
  18. Connect the A/C compressor electrical connector.
      • Secure the A/C compressor electrical connector to the bracket.
  19. Install the front LH splash shield.
      • Install the clips.
  20. Install the front LH fender splash shield. For additional information, refer to: Fender Splash Shield (501-02 Front End Body Panels, Removal and Installation).
  21. Secure the wiring harness.
  22. Connect the air suspension solenoid electrical connector.
  23. Connect the fuel injection control pressure sensor electrical connector.
  24. Connect the fuel metering valve electrical connector.
  25. Connect the vacuum solenoid electrical connectors.
  26. Connect the throttle body electrical connectors.
  27. Secure the wiring harness.
  28. Connect the EOP sensor electrical connector.
  29. Connect the ECT sensor electrical connector.
  30. Install the cooling fan belt tensioner.
      • Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb.ft).
  31. Install the cooling fan belt idler pulley.
      • Tighten the bolt to 48 Nm (35 lb.ft).
      • Install a new access cover.
  32. Install the generator. For additional information, refer to: Generator (414-02D Generator and Regulator - TDV8 3.6L Diesel, Removal and Installation).
  33. Connect both MAPT sensor electrical connectors.
  34. Connect the CMP sensor electrical connector.
      • Secure the wiring harness clips.
  35. Connect the FRP sensor electrical connector.
  36. Connect the fuel temperature sensor electrical connector.
  37. Secure the wiring harness.
  38. Connect both EGR valve electrical connectors.
  39. Connect the glow plug electrical connectors.
  40. Connect the KS electrical connectors.
  41. Connect the fuel injector electrical connectors.
      • Secure the wiring harness clips.
  42. Install the LH fuel line shield.
      • Tighten the nuts to 5 Nm (4 lb.ft).
  43. Install the oil filler cap.
      • Install a new O-ring seal.
  44. Secure the coolant lines.
      • Tighten the bolt to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft).
      • Tighten the nuts 10 Nm (7 lb.ft).
  45. Install the battery tray. For additional information, refer to: Battery Tray (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, Removal and Installation).
  46. Install the RH fuel line shield.
      • Tighten the nuts to 5 Nm (4 lb.ft).
  47. NOTE:

    Remove and discard the blanking caps.

    Install the oil level indicator and upper oil level indicator tube.
      • Clean the components mating faces.
      • Install new O-ring seals.
      • Tighten the bolt.
  48. Install the auxiliary battery tray. For additional information, refer to: Auxiliary Battery Tray (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, Removal and Installation).
  49. Install the engine cover. For additional information, refer to: Engine Cover - TDV8 3.6L Diesel (501-05 Interior Trim and Ornamentation, Removal and Installation).
  50. Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to: Specifications (414-00 Battery and Charging System - General Information, Specifications).
