REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Removal
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to: Specifications (414-00 Battery and Charging System - General Information, Specifications).
  2. WARNING:

    Do not work on or under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle on safety stands.

    Raise and support the vehicle.
  3. Remove the air cleaner. For additional information, refer to: Air Cleaner (303-12D Intake Air Distribution and Filtering - TDV8 3.6L Diesel, Removal and Installation).
  4. Remove the auxiliary drive belt. For additional information, refer to: Accessory Drive Belt (303-05D Accessory Drive - TDV8 3.6L Diesel, Removal and Installation).

    Release the coolant hose bracket.
      • Remove the nut.

    Release the LH turbocharger intake tube.
      • Loosen the clip.

    Remove the cooling fan shroud.
      • Release the coolant pipes and hoses from the cooling fan lower shroud.
  8. Remove the RH front wheel and tire.
  9. Remove the front RH fender splash shield. For additional information, refer to: Fender Splash Shield (501-02 Front End Body Panels, Removal and Installation).

    Remove the front RH splash shield.
      • Remove the 4 clips.

    Remove the RH mass air flow (MAF) outlet pipe and connecting tube.
      • Loosen the clip.

    Release the RH turbocharger intake tube.
      • Remove the nut.

    Disconnect the generator electrical connector.
      • Reposition the rubber insulator.

    Disconnect the battery positive cable from the generator.
      • Remove the nut.

    Release the ground cable from the generator.
      • Remove the bolt.

    Remove the generator.
      • Remove the 2 bolts.
Installation
  1. Install the generator.
  2. Secure the generator and connect the ground cable.
    1. Tighten the upper bolt to 47 Nm (37 lb.ft).
    2. Tighten the lower front bolt to 47 Nm (37 lb.ft).
    3. Tighten the lower rear bolt to 47 Nm (37 lb.ft).
  3. Connect the generator electrical connector.
  4. Connect the battery positive cable to the generator.
      • Tighten the nut 12 Nm (9 lb.ft).
      • Reposition the rubber insulator.
  5. Secure the RH turbocharger intake tube.
      • Tighten the nut to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft).
  6. Install the RH MAF outlet pipe and connecting tube.
      • Tighten the clip.
  7. Remove the front RH fender splash shield. For additional information, refer to: Fender Splash Shield (501-02 Front End Body Panels, Removal and Installation).
  8. Install the front RH splash shield.
      • Install the clips.
  9. Install the RH front wheel and tire.
  10. Install the cooling fan shroud.
      • Secure the coolant pipes and hoses to the cooling fan shroud.
  11. Secure the LH turbocharger intake tube.
      • Tighten the clip.
  12. Secure the coolant hose bracket.
      • Tighten the nut 10 Nm (7 lb.ft).
  13. Install the auxiliary drive belt. For additional information, refer to: Accessory Drive Belt (303-05D Accessory Drive - TDV8 3.6L Diesel, Removal and Installation).
  14. Install the air cleaner. For additional information, refer to: Air Cleaner (303-12D Intake Air Distribution and Filtering - TDV8 3.6L Diesel, Removal and Installation).
  15. Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to: Specifications (414-00 Battery and Charging System - General Information, Specifications).
