- Remove the engine cover.
- Evacuate the A/C system.

WARNING:
Do not work on or under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle on safety stands.
Raise and support the vehicle.
- Drain the cooling system.
- Remove the driver side front seat.
- Remove the floor console.
Refer to:
Floor Console (501-12 Instrument Panel and Console, Removal and Installation).
- Remove the instrument panel upper section.

Remove the 2 nuts. Release the 3 ground cables from the driver side lower A-pillar.

Disconnect the 5 electrical connectors from the driver side lower A-pillar.
-
Disconnect the 3 electrical connectors.
-
Remove the 2 nuts. Release the 3 ground cables from the passenger side lower A-pillar.
- Disconnect the 5 electrical connectors from the passenger side
lower A-pillar.
-
Disconnect the central junction box (CJB) three electrical connectors.
- Disconnect 2 electrical connectors from the instrument panel center reinforcement.

CAUTION:
Cover fiber optic cable connectors to minimize dust ingress and avoid bending the cables in a radius of less than 30 mm.
Disconnect the electrical connector. If installed, disconnect the instrument panel center reinforcement fibre optic cables.

Remove the heater housing center ducts.

Note the fitted position. Remove the special bolt and discard the nut. Disconnect the steering column intermediate shaft from the steering column.

Remove the 7 Torx screws. Release the heater housing from the instrument panel carrier.
- Remove the plenum chamber panel.

Remove the instrument panel carrier to bulkhead Torx bolt.

Remove the 6 Torx bolts. With assistance, remove the instrument panel.

Disconnect both exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) coolant cross-over pipe hoses. Release the 2 clips.

Release the 2 clips. Remove the 2 bolts. Remove the EGR coolant cross-over pipe.

CAUTION:
Before disconnecting or removing the components, make sure the area around the joint faces and connections are clean. Plug open connections to prevent contamination.
Release the 2 clips. Disconnect 2 heater hoses from the bulkhead.

CAUTION:
Immediately cap all refrigerant lines to prevent ingress of dirt and moisture.
Remove the nut and bolt. Remove and discard the O-ring seals. Release the 2 A/C refrigerant lines.

Remove the 4 nuts. Remove the 2 adapter panels.

Disconnect 2 drain tubes from the heater housing.

Remove the 2 Torx screws. Remove the driver side footwell duct.

Remove the 2 Torx screws. Remove the passenger side footwell duct.

Driver side: Remove the heater housing to bulkhead Torx bolt.
-
Passenger side: Remove the heater housing to bulkhead Torx bolt. With assistance, remove the heater and evaporator core housing.

Remove the A/C control module.

Disconnect the evaporator core temperature sensor electrical connector.
-
Disconnect the electrical connector.
-
Detach the wiring harness.
-
Remove the bolt from the support bracket.
-
Release the 12 clips. Carefully release the 3 clips. Remove the 2 screws.

Carefully remove the heater core.
- Install the heater core. Carefully insert the heater core
- Secure the heater core housing. Install the clips.
- Install the wiring harness.
- Install and tighten the bolt.
- Connect the temperature sensor electrical connector.
- Install the CC module. Tighten the bolts.
- With assistance, install the heater and evaporator core housing. Passenger side: Install the heater housing to bulkhead Torx bolt.
Torque: 6Nm
- Driver side: Install the heater housing to bulkhead Torx bolt.
Torque: 6Nm
- Install the footwell ducts. Tighten the Torx screws.
- Connect the drain tubes to the heater housing.
- Install the adapter panels. Tighten the nuts.
Torque: 6Nm
- Clean the components. Secure the
A/C refrigerant lines. Install new O-ring seals. Tighten the bolt and nut.
Torque
Bolt: 5Nm
Nut: 6Nm
- Connect the bulkhead heater hoses.
- Install the EGR coolant cross-over pipe. Tighten the bolts. Connect the hoses and secure with the clips.
Torque: 10Nm
- With assistance, install the instrument panel. Tighten the Torx bolts.
Torque: 25Nm
- Install the instrument panel carrier to bulkhead Torx bolt.
Torque: 25Nm
- Install the plenum chamber panel.
Refer to:
Plenum Chamber (412-01 Air Distribution and Filtering, Removal and Installation).
- Secure the heater housing. Tighten the screws.
- Connect the steering column intermediate shaft. Install the special bolt and tighten the new nut.
Torque: 22Nm
- Install the heater housing center ducts.
- Connect the instrument panel center reinforcement fibre optic cables.
- Connect the instrument panel center reinforcement electrical connectors.
- Connect the CJB electrical connectors.
- Connect the electrical connectors to the passenger side lower A-pillar.
- Connect the ground cables to the passenger side lower A-pillar. Tighten the nuts.
Torque: 10Nm
- Connect the electrical connectors to the driver side lower A-pillar.
- Connect the ground cables to the driver side lower A-pillar. Tighten the nuts to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft).
- Connect the 3 electrical connectors.
- Install the instrument panel upper section.
- Install the floor console.

- Install the front seat.
- Recharge the A/C system.
- Refill the cooling system.
- Install the engine cover.
