The following step(s) applies to:
All vehicles

  1. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
    Refer to: Lifting (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).

The following step(s) applies to:
Vehicles with auxiliary climate control

  1. Evacuate the Air Conditioning (A/C) system.
    Refer to: Air Conditioning System Recovery, Evacuation and Charging (412-00 Climate Control System - General Information, General Procedures).

The following step(s) applies to:
All vehicles

  1. Remove the rear wheels.
  2. Remove the exhaust silencer.
    Refer to: Muffler (309-00A Exhaust System - V8 S/C 4.2L Petrol, Removal and Installation).
    Refer to: Muffler (309-00B Exhaust System - V8 N/A 4.4L Petrol, Removal and Installation).

The following step(s) applies to:
Vehicles with auxiliary climate control

  1. CAUTION:

    Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.

    • Remove the 4 bolts.
    • Remove the 2 nuts.
    • Remove the A/C pipes.
    • Remove and discard the O-ring seals.

The following step(s) applies to:
All vehicles

  1. E240894
    • Remove the 3 bolts.
    • Remove the 2 nuts.
    • Remove the heatshield.
  2. E240895
    • Remove the 4 nuts.
    • Remove the heatshield.
  3. E162996
    • Position in place the replacement brake pipe.
    • Mark a cut line on the existing brake line, leaving sufficient length for the new brake pipe union.
  4. WARNING:

    Fluid loss is unavoidable, use absorbent cloth or a container to collect the fluid.

    CAUTION:

    If brake fluid is spilt on the paintwork, the affected area must be immediately washed down with cold water.

    Cut the existing brake pipe along the cut line made in step 8.
  5. If both brake pipes are being replaced, repeat steps 7 and 8 for the other side.
  6. NOTE:

    Left side shown, right side similar.

    • Release the brake pipe union.
    • Release the brake pipe from the clip.
  7. NOTE:

    Left side shown, right side similar.

    • Release the brake pipe from the clip.
    • Remove the brake pipe.
Installation

The following step(s) applies to:
All vehicles

  1. CAUTION:

    Do not bend the brake pipe. If required, release the brake pipe from the brake pipe clips to allow movement.

    • Install a brake pipe union to the pipe.
    • Use a suitable brake pipe flaring tool to create a brake pipe flare.
  2. Install the brake pipe.
    Torque: 15Nm
  3. If both brake pipes are being replaced, repeat steps 1 and 2 for the other side.
  4. Secure the brake pipe(s) to the clips.

The following step(s) applies to:
Vehicles with auxiliary climate control

  1. CAUTION:

    Install new O-ring seals.

    Install the Air Condition (A/C) pipes.
    Renew Part: Air conditioning pipes O-ring seal Quantity: 4.
    Torque: 10Nm

The following step(s) applies to:
All vehicles

  1. Install the heat shields.
    Torque
    Bolts: 6Nm
    Nuts: 3Nm
  2. Install the exhaust silencer.

  3. Install the rear wheels.
    Torque: 140Nm

The following step(s) applies to:
Vehicles with auxiliary climate control

  1. Re-fill the A/C system.

  1. Bleed the brake system.
