Remover, Driver Air Bag

Removal
WARNINGS:
  • It is imperative that before any work is undertaken on the Supplemental Restriant System (SRS) system, the appropriate information is read thoroughly

  • Always disconnect both primary battery cables before beginning work on the SRS system. Disconnect the ground cable first. Never reverse connect the primary battery

NOTE:

If the SRS component is to be replaced, the bar code of the new unit must be recorded.


  1. Disconnect the primary battery ground cable.
    Refer to: Specifications (414-00 Battery and Charging System - General Information, Specifications).
  2. Make the SRS system safe.
    Refer to: Standard Workshop Practices (100-00 General Information, Description and Operation).

    • Insert the special tool.
    • Repeat the above procedure for the other side.
  4. E195054
    • 1. Gently apply pressure to the tang as illustrated.
    • 2. Locate the special tool around the air bag module as illustrated.
    • 3. Pull the tool to release the air bag module from the tang.
    • Repeat step for other side.

    • Remove the driver air bag module.
  6. CAUTION:

    Take extra care not to damage the wiring harness clips.

Installation

    • Install the wiring harness.

    • Install the driver air bag module.
  3. Connect the primary battery ground cable.
