The mirror operation is controlled by three different modules, the automatic temperature control module, the body control module and the seat memory control module.
Mirror heating is controlled by the automatic temperature control module, so there will be some cross-over with the climate control section as far as diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are concerned.
For information on the description and operation of the mirrors, refer to the relevant section of the workshop manual.
Visual inspection
| Mechanical | Electrical |
|---|---|
|
|
| Symptom | Possible causes | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Mirrors do not defrost/washer jets freeze |
| Check the fuses. Check the operation of the washer jet and mirror heater relay (see the visual inspection). Check the washer jet and mirror heater circuits. Refer to the electrical guides. Refer to the warranty policy and procedures manual if a module is suspect. |
| Mirrors inoperative in one or more directions |
| Operate the mirror switch and listen for the motor(s). If the motor(s) can be heard, check the mechanical condition of the mirror and linkages. Rectify as necessary. Check for DTCs indicating a switch, motor or circuit fault. |
| Memorized mirror position is not resumed |
| Before condemning a memory component, check the function from the switch and refer to the symptoms above. Make sure the battery voltage is adequate. Make sure that the desired position is correctly stored. Make sure that the memory store/recall procedure is being followed. Refer to the relevant section of the workshop manual. |
| 'Lazy entry' function inoperative |
| Check that the remote transmitter operates the central locking, etc. If it does, the fault is not with the transmitter. Refer to "position is not resumed". |
Generic scan tools may not read the codes listed, or may read only 5-digit codes. Match the 5 digits from the scan tool to the first 5 digits of the 7-digit code listed to identify the fault (the last 2 digits give extra information read by the manufacturer-approved diagnostic system).
For a full list of climate control DTCs, refer to section 412-00, Climate Control Section of the workshop manual.
| DTC | Description | Possible causes | Action |
|---|---|---|---|
| B1B8541 | Memory Control Module |
| Renew the seat memory control module. Refer to the warranty policy and procedures manual if a module is suspect. |
| B1B8549 | Memory Control Module |
| If no customer complaint issue exists with seat operation, no action necessary, clear/ignore DTC. If seat functionality is affected, renew module. Refer to the warranty policy and procedures manual if a module is suspect. |
| B1B8587 | Memory Control Module |
| Seat memory is not installed to all variants (optional). Fault logging is inhibited by the CCF, but an incorrectly configured CCF could give erroneous DTC logging. Repair action only required for vehicles with sunroof installed. Where necessary refer to the lost communication statement at the start of this table. |
