NOTE:

Take note of the fitted position of the bush.


  1. WARNING:

    Do not work on or under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle on safety stands.

    Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the muffler assembly.
    Refer to: Muffler (309-00B Exhaust System - V8 N/A 4.4L Petrol, Removal and Installation).

    Remove the 3 bolts and 2 nuts. Remove the fuel tank heat shield.
  4. CAUTIONS:

    • Mark the position of the driveshaft flange in relation to the drive pinion flange.

    • To avoid damage to the joint or gaiter, do not allow the driveshaft to hang.

    Remove and discard the 4 Torx bolts. Release the driveshaft from the rear axle drive flange.
  5. CAUTION:

    Make sure the weight of the axle is always supported.

    Remove the axle front retaining bolt. Using a suitable jack, lower the front of the axle.

    Using the special tools, remove the axle housing bushing.
    Special Tool(s): 205-825-04, 502-009-02, 211-294
Installation
  1. E54214
    Using the special tools, install the axle housing bushing.
  2. CAUTION:

    Make sure the weight of the axle is always supported.

    Using a suitable jack, raise the front of the differential. Install and tighten the axle front retaining bolt.
    Torque: 275Nm
  3. Attach the driveshaft to the rear axle drive flange. Clean the component mating faces. Attach the driveshaft to the rear axle drive flange. Tighten the new Torx bolts.
    Renew Part: Rear driveshaft constant velocity joint bolts Quantity: 4.
    Torque: 150Nm
  4. Install the fuel tank heat shield. Tighten the bolts and nuts.
    Torque: 10Nm
  5. Install the muffler assembly.
    Refer to: Muffler (309-00B Exhaust System - V8 N/A 4.4L Petrol, Removal and Installation).
